Rare PMG-certified Vietnamese Banknotes Offered in Stack’s Bowers Auction

The April sale includes more than 200 PMG-certified banknotes from around the world.

More than 200 notes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) are being offered in an upcoming Stack’s Bowers sale. Online bidding is underway for the April 2022 Valkenburg Auction – World Paper Money, which concludes April 28, 2022.

With an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000, the top lot is a rare and high-grade South Vietnamese note from a colorful design that ultimately went unissued. The Viet Nam - South, National Bank ND (1955-56) 1,000 Dong (lot 30341) is graded PMG 67 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ, making it unsurpassed in the PMG Population Report.

The note shows an old man and a temple on the front, while the back features a woman and a ship known as a junk. A second example, graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 30342), is being offered separately in this sale, with an estimate of $15,000 to $25,000.

  • a group of eight Canada 1937 Specimen notes (1, 2, 5 ,10, 20, 50, 100 and 1,000 Dollars) each graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 30036), with an estimate of $15,000 to $20,000
  • a Bermuda / British Administration 1964 10 Pounds graded PMG 68 Superb Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 30023), with an estimate of $10,000 to $12,000
  • a Finland, Finlands Bank 1918 1,000 Markkaa graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (lot 30091), with an estimate of $10,000 to $11,000
  • a Panama, Banco Central de Emision 1941 1 Balboa graded PMG 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ (lot 30262), with an estimate of $8,000 to $12,000
  • a Portuguese India 1924 100 Rupias Specimen graded PMG 63 Choice Uncirculated (lot 30280), with an estimate of $7,500 to $10,000
  • a Danish West Indies, National Bank 1905 10 Francs graded PMG 35 Choice Very Fine (lot 30071), with an estimate of $7,500 to $8,500
  • a Rwanda-Burundi, Banque d’Emission 1960-62 1,000 Francs graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated (lot 30292), with an estimate of $6,000 to $8,000
  • a Czechoslovakia 1920 5,000 Korun graded PMG 50 About Uncirculated (lot 30068), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,500
  • a Jamaica, Government of Jamaica 1942 5 Pounds graded PMG 20 Very Fine (lot 30200), with an estimate of $5,000 to $7,000
