Hi Wondering if you can help me, Here is a picture of a 1899 Black Eagle and in the picture I put some arrows pointing to a date and a design. My question is why some note has this and some don't? is it better to have them?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Ernest

PS. I am new to collecting and wondering How much this note is worth and if any one can grad it for me.Thanks.beagle2222point.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The government made many types of these notes with the date scattered in 2 different places. these are above sn, below sn, and right of seal. your note is worth about $125 in vf-20, $180 in ef-40, or $450 in pf-63. As for the placement of the date, the value slightly increases if the date is above the serial number.

Thanks for the information, I have seen a lot of 1899 notes with no dates on that side and a few with the same date location as mine. I have only seen one with the date above the SN.

Thanks again.

Ernest
