BABE IN THE WOODS

HELP! HELP!! HELP!!! Hello fellow collectors. I JUST got my first real set of paper money. In fact, I got a few sets. BUT, they are all in CGA holders, and before I go and send them all into PMG for re-holdering and grading, (for which I may need to go back to work to pay for) I need to know how to get the bid and ask for these new adoptees of mine. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Capt. Brian To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

ADDING - ONES in SEPTEMBER 2015 - FIFTY ANNIVERSARY

BEST TIME TO START A NEW SMALL SIZE FEDERAL RESERVE NOTES SET TYPE COLLECTION   Building a New Set Type CollectionsThis is the Fifty Anniversary of the 1963 series of Small Size Federal Reserve Notes, as more new 2013 series notes are coming out of BEP, PMG is updating all the sets to add the new notes for all denominations sets. As noted in my last journal, the local bank is the best place to pick up the new crisp uncirculated notes, or at your local currency dealer. In the last two weeks of August, I have pick up the following notes Fr #3001-A, Fr #3001-E, Fr #3001-F, Fr #3001-G, Fr #3001-K stars and Fr #3001-L stars. At this time I have not located the Washington DC Fr #3002-F and F stars, also no Fort Worth TX Fr #3001-G stars. The new fifty note sheet notes are coming out will centered. Take a look at the one dollar Set Type $1 Federal Reserve Note - District Set with Stars and Varieties, their are 612 notes in this set, you will see the set change as it is updated. Also noted in www.uspapermoneyinfo.com a run of Fr #3001-L stars were printed, with a run of only 80,000 notes, they were listed as part of the January 15th run, at this time none of the notes are in circulation.Update September 10, 2015 - Just pick up ten new 2013 Fr #1996-L five dollars notes from the local B of A today, all are well centered and will grade out at 65-EPQ or better.Update October 9, 2013 - The new 2013 Fr #3001-L came back graded as PMG-66E and Fr #3002-B came back graded as PMG-67E today.Update February 8, 2017 - Add photo to JournalTo see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Christmas Came Early

Never felt so happy to get a 15 Happily Surprised Sending notes in to be graded can be a real shoot. Sometimes lucky 7 comes up and sometimes you out. This time I was Happily Surprised, I was expecting this rare mule to come back a 10 or 12 net. It was like Christmas when I saw the 15 and no ugly comments. PMG has graded over 1 Million notes now, with a total of (2) 1935 Mules from the M-A block. My 1935 set is now 100% complete. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. A Diamond in the Rough!

A Diamond in the Rough! Well very Rough! What do you think it will grade? I just picked up this very very rare note. It is truly a Diamond in the Rough. If you don't believe me check the population report on this note. FR. 1607m 1935 MULE M-A Block $1 ONE DOLLAR SILVER CERTIFICATE. It has a population of ONE and it is a 20. What is a mule, you ask? In the case of 1935 mules, they are actually 1935 faces printed on 1935A backs! This is easily determined by the back plate size number. The 1935 Plain series used a micro-plate,back numbers ranging from # 1- 929. The 1935A series used a macro-plate, back numbers starting at #930 . This note bears back plate #940, making it a 1935 mule! In the Small Size U.S. Paper Money 10th Edition (Scott Lindquist) book this note is valued at $750.00 in V-F. So the big question is What Do You Think It Will Grade? My guess is 12 net. What is your guess? Based on the pictures what do you think it will grade? I will post pictures when the note gets back from PMG. The search continues. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

ADDING - ONES in JUNE 2015 - FIFTY ANNIVERSARY

FIFTY ANNIVERSARY of SERIES of 1963 FRN   This is the best time to start a new Small Size Federal Reserve Note set type collectionBuilding a New Set Type Collections; This is the best time to add an start a new Set Type collection of Small Size Federal Reserve Notes, with BEP changing over from the thirty two subject sheet to new fifty subject sheet for the ones, twos, fives, tens and twenty dollars notes. The 2013 series of notes is the FIFTY ANNIVERSARY of the series of 1963 FRN notes to replace the 1957B Silver Certificate notes. Also if you want to spend a little more money try the Fifty and Hunderd dollars notes. You can pick them up from your local bank; always ask the teller if they have any new money or notes, also checks with your local currency dealer. I have picked up stars and other notes from the bank that have graded out as high as PMG-68 EPQ. This will also help you with your grading of the notes, as to condition, margins or registration centering and no significant handing. You can see all the BEP notes that were printed by month, by going to www.uspapermoney.info for 2013 series one thru one hundred dollars notes. This is way to start from the bottom up of a collection set, starting with 2009 FW/DC and the new 2013 FW/DC series notes. This will keep the cost of the collection low, with only the cost of the notes at face valve plus the cost of grading and shipping them in to PMG using the bulk submssion level. Also take a look at one dollar Federal Reserve Note - District Set with Stars and Variesties. There are thirty-eight slots description for the 2009 Fr #1934 FW, Fr #3000 DC and 2013 Fr #3001 FW, Fr #3002 DC. I will add the new New York B2 star notes, they are in PMG for grading.Updated on July 2, 2015 - BEP had just added the following notes to 2013 DC notes, they are the Fr #3002-B, B star, Fr #3002-F, F star and the 2013 Fr #3001-G star and Fr #3001-L and L star.Updated on July 13, 2015 - I just pick up twenty new 2013 Fr #3001-L from by local B of A today, the notes will grade out as good as PMG-66 EPQ or better.Updated on August 16, 2015 - The new 2013 New York Fr #3002-B star notes came back from PMG and grade out at PMG-66 E for all three. The next One Dollar Notes are the 2013 Fr #3001-L FW that I pick up at Bank of America and 2013 Fr #3002-B DC are set for grading. Both notes were added to all of the 2013 sets and the District Set with Stars and Varieties. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Nationals Submitted on my 5 free grading coupon

Two first name PA notes, one with the tougher Napier-Thompson signatures. Two tough 1929 $5 notes from my parents and one $10 I accidentally won at auction. The accidental auction win was one of those internet delays and my bid was stacked on top of a number of others and mine came out on top--a couple hundred more that I expected to pay. Still it's a tough National out of Albion, New York where small size notes are outnumbered by the known large size notes (any West Bromwich fans?). The First name notes are Warren and Chester--PA notes as I mentioned. The Warren note is an Fr. 603 and should grade closer to 40 than 20... I hope. Chester is a $20 Date Back, one of two in the census. It's going to get a net grade for pinholes, but I wanted it in a PMG holder for my competitive set. I'll post the notes in a set when they are finished. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Still a rookie...

Its only paper, but... Greetings to All, WOW! 2015 all ready. I slowly switched gears (my walk) to paper money (aka currency) in 2011. Mortgaged the property for a five figure note. I just mortgaged again for another five figure note. As my collector/buddy (in the hobby for over 40 years), said "Now you know where to put your money". Items (coins or notes) that you don't see, but every three to five years. I believe you all in the hobby called it "KEY DATE or RARE ITEM". Have fun in the hobby. Enjoy!
