I recently acquired this 1875 note.

Any information that can be provided would be appreciated. I am a very recent collector.

Almost tossed it out as a joke.

The man that bought this coin lived in L.A.. The coin is marked U.S. 1/2 Dollar Gold Piece - Indian Head. 1854 BU. It is not a U.S. minted coin. Jewelers minted these gold coins and they were acceptable as U.S. coinage.1884 GEM *BU GOLD 50 CENT CALIFORNIA JEWELERS PIECE - INDIAN HEAD (THIRTEEN STARS)/ OBV BEAR - 1/2 - CALIFORNIA GOLD (*NOT GRADED)FOR SALE (Serious Offers Only)Terry Chaney [email protected]comcast.net 601/372-8044

  2. Need to hear from you fractional guys!

I bought this Fr. 1374 recently online and when it arrived there are several security fibers across Lincoln's forehead. Do you find that a distraction and would it's value be effected? It is a beautiful note graded by PMG as Choice About Uncirculated 58 w/ EPQ. I would appreciate all your comments. I am more of a coin guy and could use your expertise.

    ...

recently sent an item to PMG for grading.

While all the grades met my expectations, there is 1 which I thought to be EF but came back VF25 EPQ?

To those I show the note to will also grade that note at EF.

Would it be possible to ask for explanation from PMG?

I add the final note in my set...

I added the 20th and final note for my fractional currency type set today, a second issue fifty cent note graded AU 58. It completes the type set, but I still have work to do. My goal is to have notes that graded in the 55-63 range, so I will continue to search for up-grades.

    What a set of Notes!

I had the privilege of buying a few of the notes from the Thomas M. Flynn Collection that was recently auctioned off by Heritage. What a fantstic and almost complete set of all the Friedberg Large Notes! That was a once-in-a-lifetime collection that is now disbursed through numerous collectors. I am fortunate to be one of them. Prices for the rare notes were incredible and the total collection fetched perhaps a record.

Learning to make smart investment choices for my children.

My father collected some foreign coins when he was in the military. None were of value but the intresting pictures struck a fasination with coins. I was hooked. I began collecting other coins and was given a coin collection from my Mother; there were many dollar pieces, quarters, dimes, and pennies. I collected through the years and recently began making high investment purchases for my two children. Something I can pay $500 (example amount) at todays prices may double its value amount in the next 20-30 years. Yet, I did get duped along the way. Without doing my homework, I bought some pieces that not worth much over there face value. Luckly, I didn't loose to much money! Now I research pieces, sets, picking from the higher tiered grading companies, and making smarter choices. Although, I feel that I am still learning. Tina in Maine

I am interested in obtaining a complete type set of U.S. $2 currency. I would like to obtain as many XF and better notes as possible. I have all but 6 types in my collection, but need to upgrade most of them. If you have certified $2 U.S. paper currency, please contact me.

At the age of 15 I started to collect....

At the age of 15 I started to collect and was pretty proud of my collection but after 4-5 years it got stolen and I lost my intrest:-(

Anyhow i?m now 52 years and regained my faith & intrest about 2 years ago.

Must say i?m adicted & use at least 4-5 houers daily looking for new coins & Coin lots to buy so my colection is definitly growing again.

I?w just joined here & am planing to start submitting coins for grading soon.

I?m curently most into Russian, Japanese, Swedish, Philippine coins.

1 coin I?m spessialy found of is a 1 Grano (Alof de Wignacourt 1601 to 1622)Malta.

I bought it for a few dollars only as the seller dident know the coin, it toulk me a few days to find out what it was by help from someone with better knowlege than me in a forum :-)

I?m also interested in Bank notes.

I?m happy I still have time to learn but sad I dident start up again at yanger age!

    High hopes!

I have been purchasing more and more items from the BEP. My most recent purchases have been the limited edition collector's sets. I am hoping that as they sell out that the value increases. I just purchased the 1999 $10.00 Federal Reserve set limited to 2000 total availability. Anyone have any feedback for me? Let me know!

    Coin addiction.

I am 61 and it took 50 years to get started. I was widowed last year in July and I needed someting to do that could replace marrage and become a true companion. Since I was a little kid I was interested in coins; thier designs intrigued me and I could remember in 1959 when the new Lincoln penney came out and I was facinated at the statue of Lincoln depicted inside the memorial; I thought it amazing that such a tiny thing was "engraved" in such detail on that shiny brand new piece of copper. I tried collecting but spending was more fun at the time.

Years passed and it wasn't until the beginning of this year when I discovered ebay and some friends that were collecting. After some searching, studying, wasting some money and then introduced to coin certification that I decided that coin collecting was fun and I became engrossed and somewhat addicted to modern US Coins.

I got hooked and last month joined up. I am now a part of the Collectors Society and today I will enter the very serious beginnings of my Sacagewea dollar proofs and mint entries and watch them grow.

I have plans to build my display cases and the thought of filling the empty spaces with graded, encapsuled coins is exciting. Building the cases is a project that is exciting as well. To anyone who reads this I am FlakyJT. Have a good day.

I am very new to collecting coins and have a lot of questions.

I have had an interest in coins/stamps since my first JR stamp collection set and have just recently began to pursue this interest. I would like information on topics such as; " how to determine when a coin is worth getting graded, considering the cost of the service vs the value of the coin.

I have picked up quite a few gems of wisdom just reading the message posts and I appreciate the e-bay advice it saved me some dollars last evening as I usually go by the sellers percentages of overall satisfaction and do not read the actual comments.I have interests in silver dollars and pennies and I have thus far not purchased anything worth the costs I paid for it so I guess I am a sucker, but I guess most of us where at one point or another.

  6. Be patient, grasshoppa.....be patient grasshoppa.....

I think U.S Mint took too many orders before they minted the coins. I have been ordering from U.S. Mint for over 6 years (probably lot longer for many of you) and never had problems with delayed shipments. I placed an order for one 20th Anniversary 3-piece gold set and three silver coin sets. I was informed that it may take many weeks for all of the ordered 20th Anniversary gold and silver coin sets to be shipped out. I was mostly "concerned" about the 3-coin gold set, for I did not want my order to get lost/dropped. The customer rep at the US mint told me that I will receive a set of the 3-piece gold but not till late November. Late November! I thoughts were that they are still minting the 20th Anniversary gold sets - upto 10,000 sets - that's 30,000 gold coins. Honestly, though, even if they lost/dropped my gold eagle set order, I would not be angry - just diappointed. I will have extra $2650 to spend on something else. Regarding the silver anniversary coins, I am just going to wait patiently till December (December is the target month which the customer rep told me that I would be getting my silver sets). Less than 2 months away. Heck, I've waited longer than that for my graded coins to come back from NGC. I reckon, the 3 silver sets will make a perfect presents to my children (even though they wanted the Lionel train sets). And if I like the silver sets, then I probably order some more for other family members. Regarding the San Fransico Commeratives, I've ordered both proof and uncirculated golds and silvers. So far, I have received the gold proof, but when I opened the box, the coin came out of the plastic capsule. The U.S Mint done a poor job in packaging in order to fill and ship the orders as quickly as possible. The customer rep told me that I will be receiving the uncirculated gold and both silver proof and uncirculated coins sometime in December. I guess I have no choice but to wait. I do envy those of you who already received the 20th Anniversary sets. And I am not going to trust their website when they said "free upgrade to expediateD shipping" for my gold proof came via regular mail. Then again, trying to fill hundreds of thousands of orders before X-mas, I say, "Good luck to you U.S. Mint - may the force be with you."
